LACONIA, N.H. (AP) — A sled dog race that was postponed twice due to unfavorable weather finally got under way Friday, with teams competing over three days for more than $20,000 in prize money.
According to the club's website, the first sled dog races held in the city took place in 1929 and were sponsored by the New England Sled Dog Club.
Sled dog racing returned to the city in 1956, with a two-day race sponsored by the Belknap County Sportsman Club.
