Search for missing Rainier hiker scaled back

(AP) — Officials at Mount Rainier National Park are scaling back operations as the search for a 64-year-old missing Tacoma hiker entered the sixth day. Deputy Superintendent Tracy Swartout says there's still no sign of Edwin Birch, who went missing last weekend while hiking the popular 93-mile Wonderland Trail.

Personal items belonging to missing hiker found

Police tell local media that a walking stick, pocket knife and shirt belonging to Donald Combs of Sauquoit (suh-QWOYT') have been found near Gull Lake in Herkimer County. Dive teams searched the lake Wednesday, the fourth day of search efforts being conducted by state police, state forest rangers and volunteer firefighters.
