Man serving life for 2002 murder awaits new trial

(AP) — A man convicted in the 2002 killing of an 18-year-old Marysville woman is back in Snohomish County Jail awaiting a new trial. The Daily Herald of Everett reports (http://is.gd/PR550l ) that a state appellate court in 2013 overturned John Alan Whitaker's murder conviction and granted him a new trial.

Boy, 9, among suspects in Marysville high school break-in

(AP) — When Marysville police rounded up suspects during an early morning break-in at Marysville-Pilchuck High School, they found a 9-year-old boy among the group. The Daily Herald of Everett says (http://is.gd/jRqMtf) the suspects are accused of breaking into the student store around 2:15 a.m. Monday to steal about $400 worth of candy, chips, drinks and school supplies.

Students wear T-shirts supporting shooter to school memorial

(AP) — Some students wore T-shirts supporting the gunman to a memorial remembering the teens who died in an October shooting at Marysville Pilchuck High School. School officials say each of the students who wore "Team Jaylen" T-shirts to the student-planned and student-led assembly was talked to individually about the inappropriateness of their attire and asked to remove them.
