Authorities eye reopening of goo-struck California beaches

(AP) — Authorities are deciding whether to reopen 7 miles of Southern California beaches that were fouled by globs of mysterious, oily tar. The U.S. Coast Guard says a cleanup that began Wednesday collected about 30 cubic yards of goo from the stretch of coast from Manhattan Beach to Redondo Beach and the waters of Santa Monica Bay.
