Officials: Body washes up along Long Beach Island shore

Al Della Fave, a spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, says a Beach Haven resident walking along Brant Beach between 78th and 79th streets discovered the body floating in the surf around 6:43 a.m. Tuesday. Della Fave says responding officers found the man with no signs of trauma.

SPCA: Abandoned alligator snapping turtle is dangerous

SMITHTOWN, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities caution that an abandoned alligator snapping turtle found on Long Island over the weekend is a dangerous reptile. The Suffolk County SPCA says the 25-pound alligator is powerful enough to bite off toes or part of a foot.
