Man convicted of 2011 shooting gets life in prison

FORT DODGE, Iowa (AP) — A Fort Dodge man convicted in August of first-degree murder for the 2011 shooting of a man at a party has been sentenced to life in prison. The Fort Dodge Messenger reports (http://bit.ly/1s1tXv9 ) 28-year-old Derrick McElroy said at his sentencing hearing Friday he's sorry for what happened but did not take responsibility.

Ottumwa man arrested on child pornography charges

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — An Ottumwa man faces charges of possession and distribution of child pornography in federal court after a grand jury indicted him. Court documents say a DeWitt police officer, working with an internet crimes against children task force traced photos and videos to Pilcher's computer in Ottumwa.
