Bismarck man sentenced on illegal weapons charges

Brandon Zelmer, of Bismarck, was charged in federal court with two counts of possession of firearms by a convicted felon and two counts possession of stolen firearms. The 28-year-old Zelmer has previous felony convictions for forgery, burglary, theft of property and criminal trespass.

Detroit father charged after son, 6, shots self

DETROIT (AP) — Prosecutors have filed child abuse and firearms charges against a Detroit man whose 6-year-old son shot himself in the hand while playing with a handgun. Police Sgt. Michael Woody says the boy's mother took him to a hospital and says his injuries aren't life-threatening.

Justice Dept. watchdog faults agency grenade probe

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department watchdog is criticizing a federal investigation in Arizona into a U.S. citizen who was suspected of smuggling grenade components to Mexico. The inspector general's office on Thursday faulted agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and federal prosecutors for their investigation of Jean Baptiste Kingery.
