David Backes' match penalty for an illegal hit to the head was rescinded by the NHL, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. He was assessed the penalty Friday night in Detroit after the referee incorrectly saw Backes' shoulder-to-chest hit on Detroit's Kent Huskins as a hit to the head.
