Mariano Rivera closes out emotions

Yankees relief pitcher Mariano Rivera had completed the task 608 times before stepping on the mound for his season debut Thursday against the Red Sox. But the major-league career saves leader, set to retire after this season, admitted feeling a little anxious in his first appearance since missing most of last year after tearing a knee ligament May 3. "I was waiting for 11 months," said Rivera, who allowed a run before recording the save in a 4-2 win. "There were a lot of emotions tonight, but you have to control that. You have to finish the game."
