This year’s Virginia Governor’s Cup winner is the latest in Luca Paschina’s decade-plus effort to create an icon wine for Virginia. The 2009 is opulent without being forceful; a bit gangly when the cork is pulled, it stretches luxuriously after about 30 minutes, unfolding ripe black-currant and plum flavors and stylish tannins over a long, silky finish.
