Experts generally don’t advise that young children get tested for a well-known breast cancer gene mutation, but if their mothers are tested, should their kids be informed if they have a chance of carrying the same mutation? In a study involving 221 mothers in the study led by researchers at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, most mothers who learned they carried the BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations, which heightens their risk for developing breast and ovarian cancer, chose to tell their children of their results.
