The flu season officially began for New Yorkers some 20 weeks ago, on Oct. 1, 2012. The early onset of the seasonal influenza outbreak and the high number of confirmed cases resulted in a state declaration of a public health emergency on Jan. 12. The Department of Health released the latest flu data today, for week eight of 2013 ending Feb. 23.
