U.S. stocks begin higher on earnings and Europe

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks rose Friday, continuing the S&P 500 index's longest winning run in more than six years, on improving profit from Procter & Gamble Co. and as European banks paid off debt. The Dow industrials added 33.72 points, or 0.2%, to 13,859.07. The S&P 500 advanced 4.67 points, or 0.4%, to 1,500.45. Should the S&P end Friday's session higher, the index would mark its longest win streak since a nine-day streak that ended in early November 2004.
