SEC eyes possible rise in buyout shop enforcement
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - The number of enforcement cases involving private equity firms may soon increase, a top Securities and Exchange Commission official said Wednesday. "It's not unreasonable to think that the number of cases involving private equity will increase," SEC Enforcement Division asset management unit chief Bruce Karpati told a private equity conference. He said that the growth of the industry coupled with new regulations for private equity funds may lead to more enforcement actions.
