FAA moving ahead with air traffic control tower closures

The Federal Aviation Adminstration is planning to move ahead with closing 173 air traffic control towers at the beginning of April, including 13 in New England, although the agency is giving aviation authorities a chance to make a case for keeping their facilities open. The FAA will take appeals through March 13 and will make the final decisions March 18. Sixteen additional towers could be closed at the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30.
