Dow closes above 14,000, touches 5-year high
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed above 14,000 for the first time since Feb. 1, as financial stock gains were countered by losses in the tech sector. The Dow industrials advanced 47.46 points, or 0.3%, to close at 14,018.70, led by shares of Bank of America Corp. , which closed up 3.3% at $12.24. The index reached a five-year high of 14,038.97 during the session. The S&P 500 Index rose 2.42 points, or 0.2%, to close at 1,519.43.
