API posts bigger-than-expected crude-supply rise

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Crude-oil supplies climbed more than double what analysts expected for the week ended March 22, according to data from the American Petroleum Institute issued late Tuesday. Crude supplies were up 3.7 million barrels. Analysts polled by Platts were looking for a 1.6 million-barrel climb. Gasoline inventories fell 2 million barrels, while distillate stockpiles declined by 1.9 million barrels, the trade group said.
